they happen around here often?

Not that often. I say about once every couple of months? Team Rocket's been pretty quiet for a while, so I don't know when they do something big again.

Most of the disasters seemed to be related to upset Pokemon, mostly legendaries (who are powerful enough to affect the environment and weather).

But since they're not that often, they tend to surprised us when they pop up.
